The Cost To Live W/O Food & Energy?

I was doing some research on the “real’ inflation rate in the U.S. and was reviewing how the government removed food and energy from their CPI calculations. It suddenly occurred to me the utter absurdity of trying to calculate the cost of living by omitting food costs. Everyone with at least half a brain knows that if you don’t buy food (assuming you’re not a farmer) then you won’t live but will surely die. Since it is impossible to live without food it is just as impossible to estimate the cost of “living” without food.
